The seminar will take place on November 30, 2011, at noon at the Viana Hotel and Spa at 3998 Brush Hollow Road in Westbury.

For instance, you may think it is not in your patient's best interest to stay in the marital home. However, there may be legal implications – such as those involving the custody of the children – that are associated with your patient moving out at this time.

Or when your patient's children misbehave – perhaps as a reaction to the problems between their parents -- you may offer advice on discipline. However, when parties are going through a divorce, there are legal issues pertaining to parental discipline, such as corporal punishment, that therapists should understand.

In some cases, your patient or the other parent may be brainwashing the child against the other parent. Therapists should be aware of the possible legal remedies or, in some cases, a lack thereof, to offer sound advice in these situations.
