Don't Divorce the Holidays

In the midst of a divorce, finding joy in the holiday season can be difficult. However, do not allow this phase of your life to taint this time for you. Let Friedman & Friedman PLLC, Attorneys at Law handle your divorce proceedings while you take care of preserving the holiday spirit — especially if you have children.

As holiday lists are being prepared, we'd like to share a list we put together that will help make your holiday stress-free:

  • Arrange Pick-up/Drop-off Schedule: Even if a judge hasn't ruled on your case yet, you and your ex should decide on a suitable schedule weeks prior to the holidays so you can each plan accordingly. Regardless of how you and your ex feel about each other, the holidays should remain a happy time for your children.
  • Set a Good Example: This is a great opportunity to show your children how to make the best of any situation. Remember, your children are perceptive, so be a leader and guide them through life's challenges.
  • Engage in Conversation: If your children have "mom and dad getting back together" on their gift list – don't get upset or knock their dream down. In fact, don't downplay any questions they have during this unsettling time in their lives. Sit down and engage in a conversation. Let them know that while you and your ex have chosen to live apart, they are still the number one priority in your life and you will always be there for them.
  • If You Can't be Friends, Be Friendly: While reasons leading to divorce can be hurtful, stressful, and overwhelming, it is your job to continue to make your children feel safe, happy, and thrive in a warm environment. Be cordial to each other.

Friedman & Friedman wish you and your family a very peaceful, happy holiday season. Contact the firm today!
